Dallin Oaks’ Homes

Here is a little information on Dallin’s home in North Salt Lake, former home in Salt Lake, and other property.  Again, he may own other properties as well.  If you know of additional properties let me know in the comments and I will add it!

 

Salt Lake City Home

Dallin’s Salt Lake City home was located at 1813 Yale Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108.  He as apparently moved to a new home in North Salt Lake (see below).

This home is, according the Salt Lake County Assessor’s website, currently owned by Suburban Land Reserve, Inc.  The description is as follows:

“Suburban Land Reserve (SLR) is a real estate investment subsidiary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. SLR manages real estate purchases, sales & development for The Church, which are designed to economic development in the cities where it operates.”

Some of their recent projects include the Kimball Junction Land Sale, Sunbrook Residential Community Acquisition, and Lake Park Development.  They are located at 79 South Main Street, Suite 500, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111.

Zillow lists the house as having five bedrooms, two bathrooms, being 2,871 square feet on 0.16 acres, and lists it as being built in 1928.  Zillow estimates its Market Value as $579,239 while the Assessor estimate is $512,900.

Note this residence is a short 0.8 miles from Russell Nelson home.  It is also in the neighborhood of former apostle Joseph Wirthlin.

 

North Salt Lake Home

As we saw befor e, his Yale Avenue home is on the market.  This is because he recently moved to North Salt Lake and became neighbors with Dieter Uchtdorf.  They live across the street from one another.  Dallin’s address is 399 Aerie Circle, North Salt Lake, Utah 84054 (Dieter’s is 398 Aerie Circle).  Note:  it is hard to see but there is a red security sign in the from.  Here you can see a better picture where it is more clearly a red Church Security (CS) sign—other apostles’ homes have only had blue CS signs.

Zillow lists this home at 2,334 square feet on 0.3 acres with an estimated value of $663,324.  It seems to be a smaller home on larger land than Dieter’s home and is worth a little less.

Though it has been report on other website (I base my report on these sources), one interesting thing that appears from the Davis County Treasurer’s website is that this home’s Tax Statement Recipient is not Dallin Oaks but his first cousin and former General Authority Robert Oaks.

So, Dallin’s move to Dieter’s neighborhood has either been misreported or there is something that I don’t understand going on regarding the ownership of this house.

 

Utah County

Boyd Packer’s Home

Boyd Packer has a nice home on a large piece of land in the Cottonwood Heights area of the Salt Lake Valley.  His home is located at 1850 East Forest Bend Drive, Salt Lake City, UT 84121.

It’s listed on Zillow as having 3 bedrooms, 3.75 bathrooms, being 5,239 square feet on 2.18 acres, and estimate the Market Value as $1,329,844.  He also owns neighboring parcel of land that is 2.03 acres that Zillow lists the 2011 assessed value as $422,200.  The Salt Lake County Assessor list the 2012 Market Values as $1,292,490 and $422,200, respectively.  The combined total is then $1,714,690!

Essentially his home sits on 4.21 acres of land at the end of a private lane.

Also, note that his daughter Gayle Kezerian also lives on the same street at 1950 Forest Bend Drive.  In the map below you see his two properties at the end of the private lane in red and his daughter’s in green.  I believe other children may also be neighbors but I could not verify that.

Tom Perry’s Homes

Now this is an interesting post for me.  I knew Tom Perry lived near the Conference Center, but I didn’t know much else.  Well, let’s see some details.

Tom Perry’s home is 245 North Vine Street, Apt 703, Salt Lake City, Utah—-and Apt. 701—-and Apt. 704 (Apt. 703 is in his name while Apts. 701 and 704 are in his wife’s name).  Wow!  Three apartments right next to each other.  Let’s see the building first.

The three apartments (701, 703, and 704) have a Market Value of $254,000, $181,700, and $213,500, respectively, according to the Salt Lake County Assessor’s website.

Here are some things of interest from Zillow.com:

Apt. 701: 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1,352 square feet, Value $317,118

Apt. 703: 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1,049 square feet, Value $188,688

The combined Zillow Market Value estimate is $721,837! (with 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms!

Jeffrey Holland’s Homes

Jeffrey Holland appears to own two home (one home and one condo), both in the Downtown Salt Lake area.

Jeffrey’s Condo

Let’s start with the condo. The condo’s address is 171 Third Ave, Apt 506 Salt Lake City, UT 84103-5008, a short ten minute walk to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.  It has three bedrooms, and 2.5 bathrooms in just over 2,000 square feet.  Zillow estimates its value at a cool $424,702.  I know of at least one emeritus Seventy who lives in the same building—it may be a popular General Authority complex.

One interesting thing is that the Salt Lake County Assessor’s Office list his condo as one of four in the building owned by the church.  See the complete list of owner’s in the complex here.  Do you know any of the other owners?

These are the four condos owned by the church.  Note the values from the Salt Lake County website are $337,600, $354,900, $332,500, and $363,600 for a total of $1,388,600!  Remember Zillow estimate Holland’s condo around $424,000 so I can only imagine these are underestimates for all four condos.

Jeffrey’s Home

His home is located at 278 A Street, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103.  It has five bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, and is 2,458 square feet on a 0.19 acre lot.

The Salt Lake County Assessor’s website estimates its Market Value at $600,500 while Zillow estimates the Market Value to be$535,587.  Note that the SLC Assessor’s website says the average neighborhood home sales for $383,309.  Jeffrey’s home would sale for 1.56 times the average home and is 75% of the maximum neighborhood sale price.

Henry Eyring’s Homes

Now for the last member of the Mormon First Presidency: Henry Eyring.

I was honestly pleased to see his home’s estimated value as it really did seem modest and reasonable.  Well, that doesn’t seem to be the full story.

Henry’s home is located 1977 Chokecherry Drive, Bountiful, Utah. The house sits on the corner (see side and front pictures below) and is directly across the street from the ward building that houses the Mueller Park 4th, 5th, and 8th Wards (I believe his home lies in the 5th Ward boundaries).

According the Davis County Treasurer, its 2012 Market Value was $227,474.  The home was built in 1977 and is about 2500 square feet on 0.27 acres of land.

For some reason Zillow lists the home as being about 1700 square feet and estimates its value as $245,943.

I believe his son John is a fellow Davis County resident, however he seems to live closer to Dallin Oaks and Dieter Uchtdorf.

Originally I thought this was his only property, however, a quick search revealed that Henry and Kathleen also own a Twin Home in the Utah County city of Saratoga Springs.  This second home has four bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, was built in 1998, is about 1,500 square feet on 0.068 acres.  Zillow estimates its value at about $200,000 (again, relatively modest).  Note in Google Maps that it is again very near a Mormon Church building.  In the picture below, the house is at the end of the driveway on the right.

Dieter Uchtdorf’s Homes (Updated)

Some of this post originated on the this site.  I will try to add to that information and provide a new presentation.

Dieter appears to own two very nice residences: one in North Salt Lake and another in Heber City, Utah.

North Salt Lake Home

First, his main residence in North Salt Lake.  It is located at 399 South Aerie Circle, North Salt Lake, Utah 84054.

The home was built in 1999, is about 2800 square feet on 0.22 acres of land.  According to the Davis County Treasurer website the 2012 Market Value of the home was $778,000.  According to Zillow.com, the estimated value is currently $728,414 while its peak value of nearly $950,000 was reached in early 2008.

One interesting fact is that his new neighbor is Dallin Oaks who moved in directly across the street in 398 Aerie Circle (more to come on this).

Second Home in Heber

Dieter also has a second home in Heber City, Utah.  It is located at 242 North Red Ledges Village Way, Heber City, Utah.

The home was built in 2011 (its very new!) in the exclusive gated community of Red Ledges, is about 3800 square feet on 0.06 acres of land (though, as pointed out by a reader, this seems incorect).  According to the Wasatch County website the 2012 Market Value of the home was $637,274.

I’m not sure whether Dieter is a golfer or not, but if he is I am sure he is enjoying the two golf courses in his backyards.  His North Salt Lake home is situated on the Eaglewood Golf course.

His Red Ledges Home is situated near the award-winning Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at Red Ledges.

After a quick search I found the following record related to a property at 246 East 300 North Provo, Utah 84606-2913 that lists Dieter and Harriet as the owners from 1987-1990.

Why did they own this place in the late 1980’s?  He was ordained to the Second Quorum of the Seventy in 1994.  Did a child attend BYU and their bought a place for that child to live while there (that’s common)?  It wasn’t worth very much at the time–only $41,000 and it didn’t go up during those three years.

Thomas Monson’s Homes (Updated)

Thomas S. Monson’s home is located at 4125 Carter Circle, Salt Lake City, Utah.

It was supposedly surround by Church Security posters with the following written:

There also seems to be a pathway from his house to another structure behind it.  The backyard also appears to be quite large.

My understanding is that he does not live there much any more and now lives in the Church-owned apartment downtown (as Hinckley reportedly did) located on the top floor or 40 North State Street, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103.  I believe (I need verification) that it is the top floor apartment on the Northeast corner of State Street and South Temple.  Notice the windows—I have been told they are bulletproof.  I have also been told there is an elevator from the apartment that takes you directly to the vast tunnel system underneath Salt Lake connecting various Mormon buildings.  Supposedly the tunnels are have yellow carpet and is fondly called “The Yellow Brick Road”.  He is not the only apostle with residence there either (covered in future posts).  In the pictures it is the darker colored building.

It also appears that Thomas Monson and his wife Frances are the owners of a second home in the upscale Utah town of Midway.  It is located at 140 Farm Road, Midway, Utah.  The home is 1650 square feet on 1.7 acres and was built in 1977.  Market Value in 2013 was estimated at $383,734 (pictured below).

After a quick search it appears Thomas and Frances have an additional property up Provo Canyon.  A record can be found on the Utah County website.  This home is located at 6742 North Fairfax Drive, Sundance, Utah 84604.
